AFTER DARK by Emma Early Photography // Columbus Ohio Boudoir

What inspired you to book your session?

I have wanted to do something unique for myself and when Emma offered an After Dark photoshoot. I knew that I had to do it. Let me tell you, it was so worth it! I wanted something sexy and romantic with a dark mysterious vibe for my first solo session. The biggest thing I wanted was to step out of my comfort zone and try something new, to show myself and others that I am beautiful no matter what. And I want to show other women that we are beautiful no matter what we look like.

How did you feel leading up to your session?

Well, to be honest it was not a good start to the day. I started out needing my nail fixed before we went and my car decided to break down on the way there, my partner's car was also having issues, so we had to hurry back to borrow a car so we could get there on time. I was so worried that we would have to reschedule, I actually had to get a hold of Emma and talk it through with her. Once we got to the studio I was so relieved, also extremely nervous because I knew that I was going to do something that I never thought I would do.

How did you feel during your session?

First, let me tell you something about myself. I try to hide in my photos but I also try to show others that it is possible to be beautiful no matter what. I have a disability that makes it difficult to stand for long periods of time, my knees touch when I walk and stand and I am unable to do a lot of the normal poses like sitting on your feet or pointing your toes for example. Emma was more than willing to work with me and let me tell you she was still able to get beautiful angles and spicy too! She is always willing to work with some crazy ideas and I have never had to ask for any more shots in any of the outfits that you wear.

How did you feel about your body after your session?

I have always been uncomfortable with my body because I have gained weight through the years and I am plus sized and I have really obvious stretch marks and scars. After I saw the final images I thought “is that really me”. Emma made me look beautiful even with my stretch marks, old and new. Even seeing the standing photos Emma made sure to work with the the way I stand. When I say that my disability isn't very noticeable it's true.

What emotions did you feel after your session?

Where do I start?? I thought that I wouldn't enjoy the Just The Sheets photos because I have learned to cover up my body completely. I was taught to never let anyone take any kind of risqué photos because it can be used against you at any time. I saw my photos for the first time and I was so shocked that it was me. If you ask Emma and my partner I am not one to express myself very much. Honestly, the pictures almost made me cry and I thought maybe I am beautiful and I could see what others saw in me for once. Now I am more comfortable looking in the mirror and I believe in the near future I will be comfortable getting a two piece swimsuit or getting more strappy bodysuits. I love this feeling and I hope it lasts a long time.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about doing a session?

Don't ever think you aren't good enough to treat yourself to the experience of a boudoir shoot! Emma will treat you like family and welcome you with open arms. By the end of the day you will have your everyday clothes everywhere and you'll forget that you're not at home. Emma will be your hype girl, she is up for any idea you can imagine. Don't be afraid to voice your concerns, she will do everything she can to make sure you're comfy. If you get the opportunity or you are on the edge of doing a shoot, do it!! I promise you won't regret it.
