Breaking Three Myths About Boudoir

I’m sure you have heard of the endless stigmas around boudoir photography. Some of them are downright laughable. Honestly, I think we can thank our patriarchal society for that. Emma Early Photography strives to be transparent and have conversations that break the stigma of boudoir. With that in mind, let’s break three myths about boudoir.

1. Boudoir photography is porn because it’s just naked women!

This one is downright laughable; unfortunately, so many people believe this one! Did you know you have complete control over how much of your body you show during a session? People find empowerment in different levels of modesty, and the amount of skin shown doesn’t determine whether or not your session is porn. The point of boudoir is to empower women and individuals. It’s to find genuine love for your body and inner self. You can achieve that by wearing a cozy sweater or nothing at all.

2. I must be “skinny” to do a boudoir session.

This myth is very incorrect! A good boudoir photographer will strive for inclusivity. All bodies are boudoir bodies. The size of your jeans doesn’t determine your sexuality or beauty. In fact, Emma Early Photography has a diverse client closet to prove this myth to be untrue! Her client closet has size XS-6X. Check out her portfolio to see all body types in action; looking absolutely incredible! You don’t need to lose 10 pounds to book a session. We believe in booking a session just as you are.

3. I have to book a session as a gift for my significant other.

Nope! This myth is wrong. You don’t need to be married or in a relationship to book a boudoir session. You have full permission to do a session for yourself. You, yourself, are worth the investment. The experience is to pamper and empower you. It’s cool if you want to do it as a gift. However, you should do it because you want to feel incredible for yourself. You don’t need any reason except existing as yourself to book a session. Remember, you are worthy of the investment.

We could cover many other myths; however, these are the ones that spoke to me the most. To summarize, boudoir isn’t porn because of how much skin is shown. Empowerment is a number one priority in boudoir. Being thin isn’t a prerequisite for booking a session. We believe every single body is sexy, and we strive to be inclusive in our sizing and model calls. Sessions don’t have to be gifts for anyone other than ourselves. If you want it to be a gift, that is fine, but it’s not a requirement! Book the session for yourself. You’re worth it.
