How to Build Confidence Leading up to Your Shoot

So, you booked your shoot! Typically, people book their shoot a few months out, so there is plenty of time to prepare! You may feel a wide range of emotions, such as nervousness, excitement, and curiosity about how the day will go.

These are some of our favorite tips to build confidence before your boudoir experience. We're sharing this to help you relieve added stress for your day. We understand this experience's importance in providing tips, advice, and practical action steps to prepare you.

Glowy skin should be a priority in preparing your body when leading up to the shoot. Use this time to get a cool water bottle and stay hydrated. This is vital in the week leading up to the shoot, but remember, good habits take about 3 weeks to form! The sooner you work on your hydration, the more your skin will thank you. A hydrated body is a confident body.

If you haven't already, establish a good skincare routine. A thorough skincare routine includes a makeup remover, face wash, toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Don't try new products two weeks before your shoot. Use your tried and true products. I recommend using a good facemask, such as Aztec clay and apple cider vinegar, to clear up random breakouts that may occur. Your effort into your skin is a fantastic way to build confidence.

Make a schedule of the self-care appointments you need to make. If you dye your hair, remember to give yourself enough time to settle so there won't be color-bleeding stains on your hands or our light-colored lingerie and sheets. If you want to get your nails done, ensure it is done within a few days of your shoot. If you get hair removal, such as waxing, make sure it is done a couple of days before your shoot. Get excited about having a reason to pamper yourself from head to toe! Personally, this is one of my favorite parts of the experience.

If you need to go shopping for lingerie, ensure you get it ahead of time to make sure it fits and you feel confident in it. While our client closet is extensive and inclusive, we always encourage everyone to bring a couple of things (even if it isn't lingerie) that you are confident in of your own.

If the gym isn't your everyday lifestyle, I do not encourage you to start just for your shoot unless that is something you want to do. However, I recommend finding a yoga class or doing Youtube yoga stretches so your body can be used to the arches that many of the poses incorporate during the boudoir session. This is a great habit, and your body will love being nourished by finding movement that feels good. If this isn't your jam, don't stress about it. It is a recommendation to prepare your body physically. Many people do not do this and do just fine! Moving your body is a great way to build confidence in your ability.

Speak positive affirmations about your body. I encourage you to start writing down affirmations about yourself and speak them out loud in the mirror. It may seem silly at first, but they genuinely work. If you go into your session truly believing you are incredible, sexy, beautiful, and worthy; you will get so much enrichment from your session. You will feel the value, and it will elevate your confidence tenfold. We are here to help you with affirmations and how to incorporate them into your life. I promise you won't ever regret speaking kindly to yourself.

Lastly, allow yourself to be vulnerable. Vulnerability is sexy and empowering. The number one thing you can do to build confidence leading up to your shoot is to allow yourself to be present and let go of all expectations. Show up exactly as you are, and know you will be loved and celebrated, no matter what. Remember, you are human, and your body and skin are perfect as is. Some things are so outside of your control, and that is more than okay. We celebrate you for being beautifully human. Be open with yourself and our team about your worries, so we know how to support you best.

These are some of our best tips to help you optimize your confidence. Don't worry if you're not quite there when your shoot comes around. You may not feel 100% confident going in. We are positive you will leave feeling the best you ever have! Trust the process and remember you deserve this life-changing experience. Don't be afraid to come to The Self Love Club group on Facebook and ask our past clients how they helped calm their nerves and build their confidence. Plenty of women will share their vulnerable feelings and experiences to meet you where you are.
