Beautiful Details of the Human Body

Columbus Ohio Boudoir Photographer | Emma Early

Contrary to what social media tells us, the human body is incredible. Our body chemistry is unique, and I think we forget that even if we ate all of the same things and did the same workouts, our bodies would still look so different from the person next to us. We were never meant to all look exactly the same. Here are some details on the human body that deserve endless praise and adoration. If you’re in the process of accepting and loving these characteristics, I hear you and hold space for you.

Isn’t it beautiful when the sun brings out your freckles? Your sun-kissed skin in the warm months is scattered with freckles that add dimension and uniqueness to your body. Their pattern will never be the same as someone else.

Isn’t it incredible to think about what your body has withstood when you look at your stretch marks? Maybe it is hard to get used to them hanging out on your body, but remember your body is a vessel that has carried you through a lifetime of highs and lows. Guess what. Your stretch marks are proof that you exist with immense bravery.

Isn’t it beautiful that our skin heals? Acne scars and discoloration can make us feel like we have failed to maintain perfect skin. However, we cannot control our genetics. Science isn’t always on our side, and we must prioritize loving ourselves as humans. Acne scars are proof that we heal. Although sometimes not as seamlessly as we would like, we made it through. We heal, and we continue forward.

I know cellulite is a complex “flaw” to love. That is another part of our body that is out of our control. In fact, it doesn’t matter what our weight is. It’s purely genetic. It means that our hormones, specifically estrogen, didn’t quite agree with our bodies. That is okay. Our cellulite shows that we are human and our body has texture. The texture isn’t ugly. We were never meant to be soft airbrushed humans.

On that same note, skin texture and hair are completely normal and exquisite. Whether it’s dry skin, a disorder, or our environment not agreeing with you, it’s okay. You are beautiful, even with some texture. It’s normal for our skin and hair to change depending on seasons, stress, and internal factors. We cannot expect to remain the same through all aspects of life. We must allow ourselves to ebb and flow and meet where we are.

Lastly, let’s praise our body for its proportions. It is so common for our body to not be perfectly symmetrical. For many women, this means having uneven breasts, a unique nose, a curved spine, or a crooked jaw. These characteristics are so out of your control. It’s okay that you don’t have the perfect body that society demands out of us. You are beautiful with every single detail that doesn’t make you perfect. Your proportions don’t need to be perfect and aligned to be gorgeous. Your body was created to carry you through life, and we were meant to be more than a beauty standard on social media.

Believe me, I know that these details may make you uncomfortable to read. I know you may think that I am crazy for suggesting that these are beautiful and worthy of celebration. However, I genuinely believe that the human experience deserves praise. We were never meant to post our perfectly manicured bodies on social media. We are brilliant, strong, and courageous. We are pushed to meet the demands of life every single day. Our skills, talents, and inner being dominate what some random person thinks of us online. I’m just here to remind all of us that we are beautiful. However, we are more.
